Kurt Sutton
Hey,
I’m Kurt Sutton, a television Director, Technical Director, and Producer based out of New Bern, North Carolina.
As a Newscast Director at WCTI (ABC)/WFXI (FOX), I’m responsible for over 13 hours of high definition content per week, including live local news programs (the only HD station in the market) and a weekly story telling show for children. I serve as the daily morning shift supervisor, and facilitate interaction between the newsroom, production staff, and master control personnel. In addition to directing and techncial directing duties, I aid in the creation of graphics, audio mixing, videography work (both in the studio and out in the field), and also shoot friday high school football games, part of the station’s award-winning “Friday Night Blitz.” As we move more into the new digital age, I have been supervising the posting of video content to our website (wcti12.com.)
I graduated from Ball State University in 2009, with a Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications. During my years at BSU, I worked as a Production Assistant at the school’s PBS affiliate, WIPB. I started out as a Camera Operator, and worked my way up to Technical Directing, Directing, and Producing content that aired on the station. Also while at Ball State, I served as a football student manager for 4 years under head coach Brady Hoke. After college, I began an internship at ESPN, working as a Production Assistant for ESPNews, on their campus in Bristol, CT. While at ESPN, I was allowed to observe network productions from the control room (including SportsCenter), and served a Playback Operator, Editor, Audio assistant, and Camera Operator during my internship.
Throughout my professional career, I have also been fortunate enough to work in a variety of capacities within the freelance television world. These include work as a Technical Director for the Indiana Pacers, as well as for Discovery Channel’s coverage of the Mecum Car Auctions. I have also worked as a Camera Operator and Graphic designer/Operator in live sports and entertainment productions, including work featured on the Ball State Sports Network, Comcast Sports, FOX Sports, and ESPN Regional Television coverage. In addition, I have previously had the opportunity to work at the University of Notre Dame, creating and managing media content for the university’s athletic website: und.com.
In my free time, I enjoy watching sports (especially football, hockey, and baseball) as well as playing disc golf and the occasional video game. I’m also an avid Walt Disney World fan, having made over 10+ trips to both Walt Disney World in Florida, and Disneyland in California.
